ARENA… of the young arts will take place June 15-20, 2010, in Erlangen (Germany) with the theme of FUTURE FOR BREAKFAST.

The deadline for applications is February 12, 2010.

Never mind next century, tomorrow comes piecemeal. At Arena’s 20th anniversary, the festival will not revel in its past, but challenge the future. Arena 2010 is looking for those experiences that forge personal tomorrows, biting through the crust of our everyday lives.

Everyone has experienced those moments, when something crucial happens that will change our lives forever to the point of no return. What is it that prompts these moments, when we burn all bridges behind us, only following the paths that lead to our futures. The impact hits us unawares; the possibilities have become present. But doesn’t the future always happen right here right now, no matter what our actions? Doesn’t the future start this very second? It’s sometimes traumatic, when suddenly there is no turning back; yet all too often, there is just a small shift of vantage points between the unremarkable and the unforeseen. What is it that makes those moments, where paths and decisions open up to us – l single story?

ARENA 2010 is looking for pieces that deal with the futuristic notion of everyday life as well as coping with events that don’t leave the world the way it used to be: performances with uncertainties, that tear our lives apart, that force us to act. The artists are required to actively contribute to the atmosphere that makes our festival unique, and make the best of all opportunities offered to them. With this in mind, the artists are invited to bring further experimental and multimedia art with them to complement their performance and add to our supporting programme, an integral part of the festival. Any additional items should be kept short and be technically simple to execute.
